Its primary function is to publish and distribute various development publications, manage a resource library, and provide information to urban and rural communities. The Centre is open every weekday from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon and from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and it is accessible to anyone. You can find the Centre at the Unitech campus, which is located just outside Lae in the Morobe Province of Papua New Guinea. Our new Appropriate Technology and Community Development Institute Building, located near the blue Mining Engineering Building, is where the Centre is situated. Transportation to the University is available throughout the day via PMVs from town.
The Liklik Buk Information Centre has the following objectives:
Our Centre has three areas of activity:
1. Liklik Buk Library
The Liklik Buk Library is a special library that has nearly 2,000 titles on village development topics and appropriate technology. The library covers topics such as agriculture, business, craft industry, energy, food, health, housing, industry, transport, water, women & development. The books are not available for loan outside the university campus, but you can read them in the library. If you want us to research topics and send information to you, please contact us at the address provided in this booklet.
2. Liklik Buk Shop
The Liklik Buk bookshop sells all the books listed in the catalogue and can order books from the same publishers that are not listed in the catalogue. Locally published books such as the Liklik Buk and Save Na Mekim are subsidized for PNG and other developing countries in the South Pacific region. The bookshop also distributes locally published development books. Just send us details of those titles and we’ll have them listed in our catalogue.
3. Liklik Buk Publishing
The Centre publishers the famous Liklik Buk and its sister publication in Tok Pisin, Save Na Mekim. We also publish a large range of other books for community development. You can find the latest publication on pages 2 and 3. We are happy to announce the arrival of the updated Liklik Buk edition (2003). At present, LLBIC Publishing is producing the Save na Mekim 2nd Edition.
There is always someone here who can show you around. Our visitors include teachers, school children, villages and volunteers as well as students from the University campus, but we also welcome students from outside the campus.
